Dublin Cookery School – Teen Summer Cookery Camps

  Posted on   by   No comments

One of the reasons we started Saucepan Kids was to inspire other families to get their kids more involved in cooking from an early age so that when they leave home, they’ll be confident and capable in the kitchen and in a better position to make healthier food choices.

James and I both remember going to college, living away from home and barely being able to cook beans on toast! We wanted to make sure that this didn’t happen with our own three kids.

We regularly try to get our lot to help out with cooking and washing up afterwards. Some days, it’s just not practical due to after school activities or excessive homework but most days, someone helps us do something for dinner.

Giving them responsibility in the kitchen like chopping vegetables, helping to plann meals or even stirring a risotto for example means that they look at cooking as less of a chore and more of an enjoyable activity.

The more your child or teenager can help in the kitchen the more they will grow in confidence and maybe even plan their own dinner party with their friends.

Growing Gourmets Teen Cookery Camp

When Dublin Cookery School sent us details of their upcoming ‘Growing Gourmets’ summer cookery camps aimed solely at teenagers, we thought that the readers of Saucepan Kids would definitely be interested in knowing more.

With a choice of two weeks in June, kids aged 12-16 can spend four (or five) days learning a range of dishes including breads, soups, pastas, fish, meats, salsas and gourmet pizzas. There’s no fairy buns here! They’ll be making adventurous dishes like Fish en Papillote, Butternut Squash Soup and Focaccia to name but a few.

The class sizes are small, guaranteeing that everyone on the camp gets lots of one to one interaction with the tutors.

Lunch is provided for the budding chefs and all the recipes that they make will be documented in a handy booklet to bring home giving them a chance to show off their new skills at home.

Dublin Cookery School

The cookery school is located in Blackrock Dublin and close to the dart and local bus stops.

The confirmed dates for the Growing Gourmets teen cookery camps are :

  • Tuesday June 4th – Friday June 9th 2o17
  • Monday June 19th – Friday June 23rd

Each day is from 10am to 3:30pm. Let’s be honest, the camps aren’t cheap, they cost €250 for four days but we feel that it would be money well spent as they would help set your teen up for a life of better food choices.
