We’ve always been fans of Neven Maguire here at Saucepan Kids. I had a fun day cooking at his cookery school in Blacklion with Fraser and we have all his cookbooks, complete with sticky notes and oil splashes. So when Gill Books sent us a copy of his latest cookbook ‘Home Economics For Life’ to review, we were delighted.
Here at Saucepan Kids, it’s no secret that we’ve always thought that Home Economics should be a compulsory subject in secondary schools. It’s a fantastic subject giving teenagers an insight in the running of a home, consumer studies, nutrition, budgeting and cooking.
We love the fact that Neven is taking this important subject and educating the masses of adults who may have missed the opportunity to study it or else have forgotten all that they learned. In fact, the popular Irish chef was the first boy in his school to do Home Economics.
In his latest book, Neven looks at the essentials dishes that anyone and everyone should be able to make from how to make a good stock to how to bake the perfect brown bread. Each recipe in the book is broken down into easy, step-by-step instructions that anyone could follow. Neven’s promise to the readers is that if you start cooking with this book everyday, and pledge to learn one new recipe a week, within one year you will super competent in the kitchen. You will be certified in Home Economics for Life!
Gill Books have given us a second copy of the cookbook to give away so if you would like to win your own copy or win a copy to give someone for Christmas, enter the competition below. The competition will run till Sunday December 9th 2019. Please note that this competition is open to Republic of Ireland residents only.
